Getting Rid of Food Rules: Don’t Be Fearful of Carbohydrates

For a long time Carbohydrates have been vilified by diet culture. People often think that a low or no-carb diet is the way to a healthy new you, this is not the case. Carbs should account for 45-65% of your daily energy needs, avoiding them cuts out your main energy source. Cutting out carbs will come with a serious loss of energy and something Nutritionists will tell you is best to avoid. Energy isn’t the only thing we get from carbs, carbohydrates contain essential nutrients that we need to function. Our brain’s nutrient of choice is glucose, which we get from carbohydrates.
Nutritionists warn that going on a low or no-carb diet can have negative implications in relation to your physical and mental health and recommend finding a healthier alternative. Carbs are required for the production of certain hormones, serotonin, for example, helps you feel calm and relaxed. It’s important to be thoughtful and take everything your body needs into account when considering making changes to your diet.
